Don’t Waste the Summer, Have Some Fun!

Hello, and welcome back to our blog! Here at Synergy HomeCare of Yuma, we specialize in making sure that seniors are able to live happy, healthy lives in the comfort of their own homes. Our services have allowed thousands of people to maintain a level of independence that would not be possible and we are proud to say that we love what we do. In our previous post, we went over some of the ways that you can spend time with your senior loved one this summer in order to make sure that they are able to get out of the house and enjoy the beautiful summer weather. In today’s post, we are going to pick up right where we left off and continue to list out some of the summer activities that our patients enjoy the most. We hope that this blog gives you some ideas that you can then use when you visit your senior loved one this summer.

Getting out of the House is Important

If you have ever spent an extended amount of time stuck in your home, you can most likely attest to the fact that it gets a little boring. While there are tons of activities to do around the home, humans tend to go a little stir crazy when they don’t go outside for extended amounts of time. Below, we have listed some activities you can do with your loved one to make sure that they are able to get out of the house and avoid the negative effects of being homebound.

  • Picnics: For whatever reason, it seems like humans have a natural desire to eat outside. Perhaps it is a vestigial desire left over from our early days as a species but, whatever the cause, nothing beats eating a well-prepared meal under the shade of a tree during a warm summer day. Next time you visit your loved one, surprise them with a picnic. Even if they don’t have the mobility to go very far from home you can spread a blanket in the backyard and enjoy your meal while surrounded by nature.
  • Baseball: From the scent of popcorn to the crack of the ball against the bat, baseball is a great way to spend time with your loved one this summer. Baseball games are a great way to bring back nostalgic memories associated with sights, sounds, and smells and, for many seniors, reliving these memories is as fun as the game itself. If you don’t live near a professional team, don’t fret; many areas have minor league teams and, in a pinch, a high school game can be just as entertaining as a professional level game.
